Nathan turns two

Two-year-old Nathan is quite a guy. He is so very independent- he'd rather do it himself and do it wrong than have help with most things. He is incredibly stubborn, but I think that's what makes him so capable. He is amazing at following directions, and he wants to help out with any task you're doing. He's quite a chatterbox at home, but around others he's often totally silent or will answer questions with whispers. But after a fair warm-up period, he's ready to rock and roll.

His favorite foods are cookies and cake. No contest. But if forced to eat something from a more legitimate food group, he likes yogurt, cheerios, and macaroni and cheese. He's got great play skills, and is just as happy to play independently as he is to play with you. He likes to do puzzles, play with stickers, his firehouse, and play "chase." Actually, he can outrun most of us so we may have a future distance runner on our hands! And he loves to shop, provided you let him walk instead of putting him in that silly baby seat in the cart.

He weighs 30 lbs, and he's a little on the short side at 34". His head, however, is still off the charts at nearly 20". Big brains, for sure. He's smart, silly, and sweet, and he brings so much light and love to our family every day.

We decided to keep it low-key for Nathan's birthday this year since he's a shy little man. We stayed home and had a party with his play group buddies, and I think he had a really good time!

Breakfast of champions

Nathan got an early morning visit from Suzy and Allie and his first cake (pop) of the day!

He's acting shy now, but he's totally going to tear into that thing as soon as they leave.
They even brought me a much-needed coffee. When you see the cake I made (and know that it took two tries due to a cake pan mishap), you'll understand that I was up waaaay past my bedtime.

See? All smiles.

Some iPad time before the party people arrive.

Oh, that's good stuff

After cake, we headed to the basement

And finally, cake number three (thanks Pinterest for the inspiration)!

You can't beat a cake that you can play with AND eat.

Time for a few presents

This bean bin was definitely the favorite.

And finally, here are some of my favorites of his 'official' two-year-old pictures.

This frighteningly adorable face is what he does when he thinks he's smiling. :)

You can fly, sweet boy.

We didn't make it until after Christmas, but Meadowlark's Winter Walk of Lights was still pretty awesome.

Brady is really getting into board games. His favorite? Busytown!
