11 months old

Our big boy is 11 months old!  Everyone always says, "It goes by fast."  We totally agree.

"Yay! Yay! Yay!"

He looks handsome even in the smallest mirror.

"Is anyone going to put my jammies on me?"

If you're happy and you know it

That's right, folks.  Brady can clap his hands!  He's been able to clap his feet for a while, but he's not had any interest in clapping his hands until today.  He did it at dinner time- I think he liked the way it felt on his sticky fingers!

Also, his second top front tooth came in yesterday!  That brings our grand total to four.  Only 16 more to go!  Ugh.

When he is not cutting teeth or bouncing a ball, Brady's next favorite thing to do these days is read.  He likes to turn the pages, and is even developing some strong preferences for certain books over others.  In fact, he'll even shut a book and climb off your lap to get a new one if you try to read him one of the "boring" ones, haha.

We've had a fun week, despite Pete being away in Arizona.  We took a day trip to PA to visit Amanda, Brock (4), and Belle (16 mos) on Tuesday.  I've never seen Brady crawl so much- he loved watching the kids play and tried his hardest to keep up.

We also had a great weekend before Pete left.  Dad, Lyla, and Daniel came for a visit on Saturday.  As always, Brady enjoyed the extra attention, even though he was a little reluctant to show off his new crawling skills.  On Sunday we were fortunate to be able to celebrate baby Allie's baptism.  Brady didn't hesitate to crawl at that party- the dog and other kids there were much too exciting to hold still for.

"I see something good up there."

"Yep, I got here all by myself!"

Superstar

Brady is having a stellar month in the new tricks department.  Last week he finally willingly let us put some finger food in his mouth (puffs, Cheerios, avocado, tomato).  He used to gag and spit them back at us, but now he'll just open his mouth and wait for it.  Then last night he picked up a puff and put it in his mouth all by himself!  We went nuts with applause, and he just looked at us like it was no big deal and we were the crazy ones.  This is huge- we've been struggling to get Brady to eat anything remotely chunky in texture!

Then tonight I swear Brady was trying to say "moo!"  Or it sure seemed that way.  We were playing with a stuffed cow and I was moo-ing.  He was cracking up, and was making some m- sounds.  Then I read him a book which has a cow in it on a page that says "moo."  He was silent until we got to that page, and then he made the same m- sound!  Coincidence or first word attempt?  I'll let you be the judge.  :)

On the move!

We officially have a crawler on our hands!  Brady has been taking a couple "crawl-steps" the last week or so, but over the past two days he has increased that to being able to crawl a few feet!  We have been waiting for this milestone and we are so proud of the little man!

I'm off to baby-proof the house...

He's got confidence in his eyes (and drool running out of his mouth)!

New moves

Brady has evidently decided that he should get his teeth in one right after the other.  He's working on his fourth now- the other top front tooth.  It seems like it's really close to coming down- probably just another day or two.

He's also been working hard on motor skills this month.  He can get from his stomach to a sitting position.  In fact, he can do it pretty easily now, no matter what obstacle may be in his path.  He's incredibly flexible- we've seen him pull some Cirque du Soleil-style contortionist stunts!  He's been hopping around on his rear-end to get where he wants to go, but we've been trying to encourage crawling.  And within the past few days he's become very good at pulling himself up to standing!  Although he'll only pull himself up by climbing on us for now; he hasn't tried on furniture or toys yet.

Bath time has become increasingly difficult...  Brady loves it so much that he just goes bananas in the water.  It's very funny, but hard to hold him still long enough to wash him.  Last night he was lifting up both his legs and dropping them to maximize splash potential.  Then he would lean back to slide down the back of the tub and lay on his back.  He also rocks himself forward so that he can put his face in the water.  He has no fear!  Seriously- it's a two person job.  One to wash and one to keep him from drowning!  He's a handful!  I can't wait to see if he likes the pool this summer as much as the bath tub.
