Plan B

Life is about to change come Monday.  Long story short, we decided that I will stay home with Brady again.  It was a tough decision, but we are confident that it is the best choice for our family right now.  I'm looking forward to settling into the old routine again, and you can look forward to more regular blog updates!

It is possible that Brady may have taken his first steps tonight.  It was hard to tell, because he sort of fell into my lap, but I am fairly certain that he took 2-3 solid steps beforehand.  Of course he would not try it again no matter how much I begged, pleaded, or cheered.  We'll see.  One thing I've learned is that you cannot make Brady do anything he does not want to, haha.

We got a surprise last minute visit from Nana and Aunt Casey this evening.  I had a minor surgery on Wednesday, so they came to check on me and bring us dinner from my favorite WV restaurant.  Brady was very excited to see them and was crawling all over the place showing them his favorite toys and books.  We hope to make it to WV and WI next month so he can see the rest of the family as well.

Labor Day Weekend

It was the first long weekend since I returned to work, and we really made it count!  We had a house full of family on Saturday- Dad, Lyla, Mammaw, Mom, Steve, and Casey all came for a visit.  It was fantastic to see almost the whole family without having to drive anywhere!  Dad drove a U-haul with my grandma's dining room set, so thanks to her we have one less empty room!

Casey stayed with us for the rest of the weekend.  Although the weather didn't exactly cooperate with our plans to hit the pool, we made the best of it anyway.  We did a little shopping, watched some football (which also was impacted by the rain- what is up with the lightning delays this year?), and went to the park.

Today it's back to the grindstone, and it is sure to be a long "short" week with Pete out of town.  I think my next four day weekend is Columbus Day, let the countdown begin!

Still standing

What a wild week we had!  We survived an earthquake, hurricane, colds, and pink eye.  And a great visit with Pete's mom and sister (they managed to escape just in time to miss the natural disasters and infectious disease)!

Loraine and Tina arrived last weekend and stayed for three nights.  After leaving them waiting at the airport way too long due to a disastrous eye appointment, we spent the afternoon at a local fair.  It was really hot, but Brady enjoyed watching the other kids and the animals from the petting zoo.  On Monday I had to go to work, but by the looks of the pictures, a great time was had by all at the park.

On Tuesday they left just in time to miss the earthquake.  It was a crazy experience, especially considering where we live.  I was very thankful for the camera at Brady's day care.  I immediately logged in, and laughed when I saw that kids had slept through it.  Brady's teacher said he cried a little, but she thinks it was because he dropped his ball more than anything else, ha ha.  Sounds about right.

Wednesday Brady was rejected from day care due to symptoms of pink eye.  His eye had been a little goopy, but we attributed it to his cold.  Since we didn't have any experience with pink eye, we didn't realize that's what it was.  But on Thursday, you'd better believe I recognized the symptoms in my own eye!

Over the next couple days, people wiped out all the flashlights, batteries, and bottled water in all the stores as we prepared for a potential hurricane.  Fortunately for those of us who were totally unprepared (unless you count the cookies I baked for sustenance), the storm was relatively mild here.

Here are some pictures from the less intense moments this week:
