Nathan James was born on Tuesday, January 8 at 12:45 pm. He weighed in at 9 lbs, 13 oz, and was 21" long. Everything went very smoothly, and Nathan is a healthy, perfect little boy!
The day, however, did not quite go as planned. While I was in recovery, Brady was home with Grandma and Papa getting very sick. Pete left while I was in recovery to go help with Brady and take him to the doctor. He had strep, possibly combined with a stomach virus. Unfortunately he didn't keep it to himself. Pete was sick the following day, as was my dad. Since Pete and Brady were down for the count, they stayed away from the hospital to keep Nathan and I germ-free. Of course Nathan wasn't Nathan then... we had made a short list of baby names prior to his birth, with the intention of naming him once we met him. Well, with all the sickness, we didn't get to spend much time together to work on names. So it was down to the 11th hour with the birth registrar putting pressure on me to name him. Thank goodness for texts from Pete and a few good friends... Nathan James didn't have to be Baby Boy forever!
On Friday Nathan and I were discharged. Even though they looked like death warmed over, Pete and Brady made it to the hospital to safely get us home. Pete's mom and stepdad arrived from Wisconsin shortly after we did, so we were quickly in good hands.
Since then it's been a blur. Nathan isn't exactly crazy about sleeping when he is not in someone's arms, so nights have been interesting. And we've had a few bumps with feeding. And Brady isn't thrilled that I can't pick him up right now. But overall, we are all doing well and adjusting to being a family of four. Which reminds me... I think it's time for a new blog title!
