No one said it would be easy... and fortunately we've had a lot of help over the last three weeks!
We had a nice visit with Loraine and JT. Brady and Nathan were happy to catch up with their grandparents, and Mommy and Daddy appreciated the cooking, cleaning, taxiing, and home repair projects they took on! We were sad to see them go, but I'm sure as soon as we are brave enough to travel with two kids we'll be making the trip to Wisconsin.
After they left we had the changing of the grandparent guard, and Gayle's Dad, Lyla, and Mammaw took over. Again we were super-appreciative of all the help while Gayle heals from her surgery. And especially when things went south late last week.
On Thursday afternoon we noticed Nathan seemed a little warm. We took his temperature, and it was 100.7. A quick google search will tell you to call the doctor for an infant with a temp over 100.4. So we called, and were instructed to take him to the ER. Fortunately the nurse didn't tell us all the things that could be wrong when a newborn has a fever, or I would have been a nervous wreck on my way to the hospital. But the kind ER doc and nurses explained the dangers of infection in a child so young, and they set to work testing all his bodily fluids for signs of problems. The bad news was that they'd have to keep him for 48 hours while they waited to get the cultures back.
Everything ended well- it was likely just a virus from our resident two year old germ-monster. But it sure was a long two days that we hope to never have to repeat. Now we are in the market for an infant-sized bubble...
But now that we're home, things have settled down somewhat, and Gayle's mom is here for the final leg of Gonzales Aid 2013. Nathan aced his two-week pediatrician appointment, looking good on all fronts. He weighed 9 lbs 13 oz (75th %ile), length was 21.5" (95th %ile), and his head circumference was 15" (98th %ile). Keep growing, little man. You'll need your strength around here!
